Back to School
Back to school! It was a warm week to kick off the 2023-2024 school year here at AC/GC Schools, but a great start to our new year. Thank you to all teachers and support staff who helped our students and parents during the first few days of school. Your help is greatly appreciated!
A friendly reminder, we will have no school on Friday, September 1, due to the Guthrie County Fair. No school on Monday, September 4, to celebrate Labor Day. School resumes on Tuesday, September 5.
Homecoming Early Out- Friday, September 22, 2 hours
Friday, September 22, will be a 2 hour early release for homecoming. The High School Student Council is working hard to develop a fun week of activities for students, alumni, and each of our communities. The booster club is also working on tailgate activities before the game on September 22nd. Our opponent for homecoming will be the Riverside Bulldogs!
Look for more homecoming information in the very near future!
Guthrie County Fair
Good luck to all of those participating in our county fair next week! Many of our students and families have been busy preparing their county fair projects all summer. Participating in the county fair is a great opportunity for many of our students to learn and gain important career skills, preparing them for their future and life after school. Good luck to all those participating!
School Bus Safety Reminders
As we begin the start of the 2023-2024 school year, I want to remind all motorists of school bus safety. See the tips below taken from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website, along with the attached bus safety brochure from the Iowa Department of Transportation.
Tips for Motorists:
Be alert and slow down when driving in neighborhoods with school zones.
Watch for children walking, playing or assembling near bus stops. Children arriving late for the bus may dart into the street without looking for traffic.
Flashing yellow lights indicate the bus is preparing to stop to load or unload children. Motorists should slow down and prepare to stop their vehicles.
Flashing red lights and extended stop arms indicate the bus has stopped and children are getting on or off. Motorists must stop their cars and wait until the red lights stop flashing, the extended stop arm is withdrawn, and the bus begins moving before they can start driving again.
Thank you for taking the time to talk to others about school bus safety and driving safely around all school buses!
Go Chargers!
